The executive committee

Prof. Daniela Goldfarb (Chairman)

Faculty member (Professor Emerita) in the Department of Chemical and Biological Physics at the Weizmann Institute. Her research deals with the development of new methods in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, which is used to study the structure and dynamics of proteins in solution and in cells.
Prof. Goldfarb previously served as head of the chemical physics department, chairman of the professors' council, chairman of the scientific council and advisor to the president for the advancement of women in science of the institute. She also served as the president of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance (ISMAR) and the chairman of the editorial board of the scientific journal Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics.
Among her many achievements are the Kolthoff Award from the Technion; Excellence Award from the Israeli Chemical Society; The Weizmann Prize in Exact Sciences on behalf of the Municipality of Tel Aviv and the Richard Ernst Prize in Magnetic Resonance.

Prof. Bat Sheva Kerem

Faculty member at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the Hebrew University. Prof. Kerem was part of the group of researchers who identified the gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

Today, her research group is engaged in the development of new therapeutic approaches for patients  CF and recently established the start-up company for the promotion and development of drugs based on antisense technology for these patients.

At the same time Prof. Kerem  Investigates the mechanisms that control the stability of the genome and inhibit the development of cancer. 

Prof. Kerem won many awards for her contribution to science and among her achievements we can mention the  Teva Prize and the Emet Prize.

Prof. Eilat Tal

Faculty member in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Technion and trustee of the Alfred and Marion Bar Engineering Chair.  

Prof. Tal's research interests are computer vision, computer graphics and machine learning. She develops methods that try to "understand" visual information automatically - a very easy task for a human, but challenging for a computer. Among her achievements are the Taub Award for Academic Excellence, the Google Award for Research, the Edwards Academy Award, the Rechler Award for Excellence in Research for her pioneering work in three-dimensional shape analysis, and more.  

Prof. Tal Yasada is the head of the computer graphics and multimedia laboratory. She headed the Meyer program for outstanding students and served, among other duties, as vice dean for academic development and as vice dean for certification studies. She served for five years as an advisor to the president of the Technion for the advancement of women in science and engineering. During this time, she led substantial changes in the Technion's policy, including the Technion Senate's statement on a vision for diversity and adequate gender representation.

Prof. Rachel Erhard

Faculty member (retired) School of Education, Tel Aviv University.

Her research focused on psychology and educational counseling: adolescents, psychopathology, mental resilience and coping.Her latest book "Me Too in the Academy in Israel" is a summary of her role as Tel Aviv University's sexual harassment prevention commissioner.

In the years 2012-2017, she held the position of adviser to the university president for the promotion of gender fairness and led the forum of the president's advisers in universities, which initiated the establishment of "Afik Ba Academia".

Prof. Erhard combines academia, practice and social activism. Established the unit for research and development of the educational-consultative psychological service in Israel, holds positions in the management of organizations in Israel and abroad, as the vice president of the International Association of Counseling and Psychotherapy, and as Israel's representative to the IPPF organization in training professionals in developing countries.

Dr. Efrat Herzberg

Dr. Efrat Herzberg Drucker is a faculty member in the Department of Labor Studies at Tel Aviv University.

Her research deals with gender inequality in the labor market, the interrelationships between work and family, and the relationship between inequality and the demographics of families in Israel and around the world.

Prof. Irit Akirav

Dean of the Authority for Advanced Studies and Head of the Bloom School for Research Students at the University of Haifa. She previously served as the Head of the School of Psychological Sciences. Her research deals with the brain basis for the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in psychiatric disorders.

Prof. Akirav is the recipient of an Alon scholarship and a graduate of the first cohort of the "Leaders in the Academy" program, the national program for developing academic leadership.

Prof. Bracha Shapira

A faculty member in the Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, serving as the Vice Dean for Research in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. Prof. Shapira previously served as head of the Department of Information Systems and Software Engineering, and currently holds the Weinstein Chair in Information Systems. Prof. Shapira's field of research deals with applied computational learning for many fields of knowledge such as cyber, medical recommendation systems and criminology.

Prof. Shapira is a researcher and a member of the steering committee of the Cyber Center of Ben-Gurion University and leads various studies at Deutsche Telecom Laboratories, and at the Laboratory for Computational Criminology in collaboration with the Israel Police.

ד"ר טל לוצאטו-כנען

Faculty member in the Department of Marine Biology, Charni School of Marine Sciences, Haifa University.

The research areas deal with functional metabolomics, the study of the role of small molecules in biological systems, ecological significance and potential for medical and biotechnological application. The research focuses on algae, bacteria and the chemistry between them, combining analytical and molecular tools.

Prof. Yael Shadami

Faculty member in the Faculty of Physics at the Technion. Prof. Shadami is a theoretical physicist
which deals with the understanding of elementary interactions and elementary particles in nature. 

Her research focuses on the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking, and aspects of quantum field theory, in particular super symmetry and amplitudes.

Prof. Limor Ahernson - Daniel

Prof. Ahernson-Daniel serves as the Vice President for International Relations at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Faculty member at the School of Public Health in the Faculty of Health Sciences and head of the Center for Research on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness and Response.

Her expertise is in the epidemiology of injury and in the development of innovative approaches and tools for the study of preparedness and response to emergencies and disasters. Among other things, the Barel matrix and the tool for measuring community resilience that are currently widely used in Israel and around the world.

Prof. Mona Maron

A faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Haifa and serves as Vice President and Dean for Research and Development at the University. Prof. Maron studies the neural mechanisms of fear memory regulation and the effect of external factors such as exposure to stress/trauma or fatty food on fear memory regulation processes.

In the past, Prof. Maron served for about 6 years as a member of the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education (VAT). Prof. Maron also chaired other committees of VAT such as the committee for making higher education accessible to the Arab society, high-tech achievements, and more. She also served as head of the neurobiology department at the University of Haifa.

Prof. Maron is a fellow of "Ma'ouf", a program designed to promote the absorption of Arab faculty in institutions of higher education.

Prof. Michal Irani

Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Her area of expertise is computer vision, artificial intelligence, and deep learning.

Prof. Irani served as the head of the scientific council of the Weizmann Institute in the years 2013-2016 and as the vice-chairman of the council in the years 2010-2013. (2017)

and the Landau Prize in the field of artificial intelligence (2019) and the Rothschild Prize in the field of mathematics and computer science (2021).

Prof. Miriam Faust

Prof. Man Hamenin (Emerita) in the Department of Psychology and the Multidisciplinary Center for Brain Research at Bar-Ilan University.

The main areas of research specialization: brain and language, brain and creativity.

Head of the Brain and Language Laboratory at the Multidisciplinary Center for Brain Research.

Previous positions at the university: head of the psychology department, advisor on gender affairs, vice rector, rector.

Prof. Nega Kronfeld-Shor

Faculty member at the School of Zoology at Tel Aviv University and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Monash University, Australia.

Prof. Kronfeld-Schor's research interests  engaged in ecological and evolutionary physiology. 

 Prof. Kornfeld-Shor   served as the academic director of the Garden for Zoological Research and as the head of the School of Zoology of Tel Aviv University and is now a member of the executive board of the European Association for the Study of Biological Clocks, and among her many achievements are the Fulbright, Rothschild, and Alon Scholarships. 

Professor Kronfeld-Schor has a wide activity  on environmental issues, and among her many positions she is a member of the executive board of the Society for the Protection of Nature, the board of the Association for Zoology in Israel, the plenum of the Nature and Parks Authority and the council of the city of her residence, Gedera.

Prof. Noa Aharoni

Faculty member in the Department of Information Sciences at Bar Ilan University. Prof. Aharoni's research interests deal with information literacy and social media.


Prof. Aharoni served as the head of the Department of Information Sciences between the years: 2014-2019 and has served since 2019  As an academic chair of the Malmad-Center for Digital Information Services.

Prof. Naomi Uri

Faculty member at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University.

 

Prof. Uri is a researcher at the Institute of Plant Sciences and Genetics and the field of research

Hers deals with developmental flexibility in plants.

Prof. Adia Mendelson Maoz

Researcher of Hebrew literature and Israeli culture in the Department of Literature, Language and Arts at the Open University. Her research deals with the complex relationship between literature and ideology, space and ethics. Mendelson Maoz is leading a research project that uses tools from the field of digital humanities for the study of Hebrew literature.

Prof. Adia Mendelson Maoz is a graduate of the first cohort of "Leaders in the Academy," the national program for developing academic leadership. She serves as the head of the master's degree program in cultural studies, and will head the digital lab at the Open University.

Prof. Idit Shahar

Faculty member in the Department of Immunology at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Served as head of the department of immunology and president of the Israeli Association for Immunology.

Currently serves as the head of the array for gender equality and the advancement of women in science at the institute.

Prof. Shahar's research interests deal with the immune system, with a focus on the mechanisms that regulate the maintenance and function of the cells of the immune system and also on the proteins that regulate the delicate balance between the creation of the cells and their function in a healthy person and in various diseases.

Among her many achievements, she won the Alon scholarship, Peres Teva  and the prize of the Israeli Academy of Sciences and she holds several patents for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and cancer.

Prof. Ronit Pankas-Kramersky

A faculty member in the Faculty of Life Sciences, the School of Neurobiology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, as well as a member of the Segol School of Brain Sciences, at Tel Aviv University and serves as the Head of the School of Neurobiology, Biochemistry and Biophysics.

Prof. Pankas-Kramersky's research interests deal with understanding the transmission of signals within cells that lead to division/death/survival as well as studying the autophagic process. (a process in which the cell breaks down its own components)  and the involvement of these processes in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

Prof. Ronit Sharid

Faculty member at the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials at Bar Ilan University and head of the Rapaport Chair in Medical Microbiology. 

Prof. Sherid's research deals with viruses with an emphasis on herpes viruses and in particular Kaposi's sarcoma virus.

Among her achievements are the Alon Scholarship, the Taubenblatt Award for Excellence in Medical Sciences

and the Moshe Shilo Prize for microbiological research.

Prof. Sherid served as Rector's Advisor for the Advancement of Women and currently serves as Dean of the School of Advanced Studies at Bar Ilan University.

Prof. Tamar Zilber

Prof. Tamar Zilber, faculty member at the School of Business Administration at the Hebrew University.

In her research she focuses on the interrelationships between organizations and organizational processes and the environment of meaning and broad systems of meaning in culture and society. Her latest book Peace entrepreneurship (together with Prof. Amalia Oliver, Dr. Yusfa Tabiv-Khalif, Hanin Majadala and Tami Rubel Lifshitz) deals with Israeli and Palestinian peace entrepreneurs, and how they continue to act with hope despite the ongoing conflict.

Serves as an editor in the Academy of Management Journal

and as a member of the executive committee of the European Group of Organization Studies.

Served as head of the Leifer Center for Gender Studies at the Hebrew University, and together with Michal Barak developed a workshop to raise awareness of gender biases and other barriers that shape the academic careers of women and men. The workshop is delivered to all members of recruitment and promotion committees at the university.
